Penndel Borough and Robbins Ave.

Quietly nestled behind a row of houses and riddled with more potholes than actual concrete, Robbins Avenue from the outside looks like your typical poorly maintained small, town road. Though slightly uncommon for a town like Penndel Borough that does a moderately good job of keeping its roads paved. In any other place it would probably be quickly forgotten by everyone, excluding those unfortunate enough to have to drive over it on a daily basis. So why is it that everyone in the surrounding area knows about Robbins Avenue, if not by name?

Possibly because before the FBI drug raid the year before last it was often rumored to be the biggest seller of heroine outside of Trenton in the Delaware Valley? One can only feel bad for the blind-sided renters of the Oxford Grant apartments who couldn’t have had any idea what they were getting themselves into.

So who owns Robbins Avenue in Penndel Borough and why won’t they pave and maintain it? Well that’s the problem, no one will stand up and take responsibility for it. Only three groups whose property connects to Robbins Avenue actually open onto it; the Oxford Grant Apartments, PBU dormitories, and an unfortunate double-house that has been crammed between the two. PBU and the Oxford Grant apartments have taken the position that Robbins Avenue is a public road that isn’t their responsibility . Whilst Penndel Borough refuses to take responsibility for Robbins Avenue, claiming that it’s a private road (although it’s listed on numerous maps and benefits more than one Penndel landowner.)

So what needs to be done to Robbins Avenue to bring security to the area and pleasant driving to all? To start, Penndel Borough needs to step up and take responsibility for Robbins Avenue, it is clearly the town’s road. Even if it wasn’t, it has obviously been abandoned by the real owner and negatively affects everyone in Penndel Borough, being the hot spot for Penndel crime. After they do that, cut the road in half, go slightly to the right of the double house and take out about twelve to fifteen feet of the road and build a small, large windowed, Penndel Borough security office there and get rid of the old one because your police station should be where your crime is. Crazy? Absolutely, however, less crazy than uniting our police force with the neighboring towns which will bring nothing but higher taxes, and would be far more affective in stopping Penndel crime. If nothing else, it can stand as a sign to possible Oxford Grant renters that they might just want to take their family somewhere safer. Then, pave both roads, make the Oxford Grant road West Robbins Road, and make the one that connects to the PBU dorms and the double house East Robbins Road.

When all that has been done, Penndel would be justified in taking down the white tennis shoes that hang above Robbins Avenue.

  1. An interesting idea. Probably the first time someone has ever proposed building a Police Station on a road. If the Borough wasnt hitting us with so many fees lately Id say this idea was great. But knowing the Borough theyd slam all of us with outrageous fees to pay for this thing.

  2. this is great!!! a paved road that goes right to a cop station would end crime in Oxford Grant! plus my car wouldnt be parked in a pothole!

the owners of the gas station would probably be happy not having to constantly repaint their building, those kids always graffitin it up

  3. You certainly have a knack for stirring up controversy. I admire your ability to boldly state exactly how you feel on a subject. It is always a pleasure to read you posts on the dailypaul.

  4. I sorta see your point. Why not go ahead and build the court house and jail there too. It would save everyone a bunch of gas. We have 2 major crime areas in my small town. All the crime is in these areas too and the police station and court house are a good distance from the crime areas. I guess the police want to get close, but not too close.

  5. The owner of Robbins Avenue is Otto Grupp from Langhorne Manor. Don’t expect any help from the Penndel Borough Council, they can’t handle curb & sidewalk replacement. I hope the information helps you.

  6. I can not believe someone would write this crap. For the one who writes it maybe you are a new comer to town. Robbins ave. has been an eye sore for years. Check back with Mr. flannery and find out why that street is the way it is. They were told almost 30 years ago to repair the road to Penndot standards and then dedicate it to the boro. They balked at that idea. Question is should the residents of this town pay for a street that was never theirs? I also read that taxes are for curbs and sidewalks, are you nuts? There is not a township or boro in the area that pays for curbs and sidewalks. It is about time to stop the political correctness and just say it the way it is. Stop crying and stop thinking that your miniscule amount of taxes can pay for everything that goes on here. Most of you have no clue. Cry all you want about the D’s and R’s but it has been no different under either’s control. You can go back to when I was on council many years ago it will not change, we can only do so much with the little we recieve. I am sure you will not like this answer. The crime at Oxford Grant will not change until the ownership makes the changes and drives out the unwanted’s. As long as they recieve section 8 money they will never change.

  7. Maybe we can put Dave Cahill on that street also. He can make everything perfect. He is my hero, I am sure he has something to do with this bull sh-t also. A big bunch of PUS–’S write here

  8. Robbins Ave at Licoln Highway had to be maintained by the business owner – the remainder of it was left in such deplorable condition supposedly to keep the trucks off of it that served the business owner for one and second to keep from people using it as a shortcut many years ago.

Penndel Officials have always been corrupt going back many years and they get part of it from a local – Business Owner – family that helps dictate what goes on in the borough.

The airplane that was on Flannery’s was the best part of Penndel, that one item generated business before the highways bypassed Penndel.

Now you have a local celeb that had a walk-in bar scene on “The Soprano’s” – is Penndel Pizza still there?

I have been away from the area for many years, now but read the Courier Times site daily.

By the way the two links you listed do not work – you must have stepped on someone’s toes!!

  9. “Anonymous” who wrote the information 4 comments above regarding the owner of Robbins Ave. and the curbs/sidewalks issue is not really anonymous at all. He is the Town Stalker and is mentally unstable and his comments should all be disregarded and deleted. Thank you.

  10. will86aber, it’s funny how some people just can’t tell the truth even if their life depended on it but the real reason Penndel won’t fix Robbins Avenue is that the council is too busy dumpping our hard earned money down a sewer system that was totally ignored by former council members that had no idea what they were doing. Now their wasting good money after bad because a few idiots think it’s a gold mine. They won’t sell the sewer system because their more interested in saving a couple of meaningless borough jobs (maintenance & asst secretary). Our Council raised our taxes 3 mills this year and we’re still waiting to see what we are getting for $58,000. The big question is, what’s going on with the million dollar note? Why does council continue to sit on nearly $500,000 of that note that was borrowed almost two years ago? Talk about piss poor management. You can blame all the members of Council for this. Did I forget to mention how much the interest payments are? How does $20,000 a year sound? No wonder the council had to raise taxes 3 mills (58,000) this year. See what I mean, one bad decision after the next. Now for the even bigger question, how much money has our Council wasted on Fantasy Island (the downtown area) over the years. The question has been asked many times. The taxpayers are having a hard time getting any straight answers from some members of Council (ward & barb) because most members of Council don’t even know what’s going on themselves. Is any of this really for the good of Penndel?

  11. The only thing that we need to work on for the good of Penndel is doing something about the Town Stalker.

  12. Well now it looks like the one with the well a college education has reached out to write more bs. You still don’t listen do you Dan Cahill. The Sewer system however old, the offer wfrom BCWS was that they would ask us to pay them to take it (boro records). The money that is sitting there does not have to be paid back until we use it (boro records). You seem to think you know what you are taking about funny you don’t. Campaign BS. You and your brother will be the laughing stock of the town, soon.

  13. Stan, the only laughing stock in town is your friends the council democrats. They’re finally FAMOUS and it’s well earned. It’s not everyday you get honored like they did. Most of the thanks has to go to Sean, Bob & Mike. If it wasn’t for them, not as many people would be LAUGHING THEIR A$$E$ OFF. Now that’s funny.

  14. The only Laughing stock is you when you allow your sister to take it like a man. Don’t worry you are not alone you still have the light man. Look it blinks. I stood there watching for days. I think we found the family drunk. Now thats funny.
